Stupid Filevault

leave a comment »

Some day, I’ll share my philisophical musings about the cult following of the mac that seems to have blinded people to some very basic problems. For now, sufice it to say that, while I still like Apple better than Windows, It’s not the perfect OS/hardware combo many make it out to be.

Today’s case in point – this stupid FileVault error. My MacBook Pro has been crashing the last couple of days while loading CDs to iTunes and running other processes like torrent downloads. Since disk activity is high with both of thies, I decided that I’d turn off the FileVault encryptioin to hopefully free some resources. Well, in order to do so, I’m going to have to free up some 4,064 GB of disk space. Seeing as the internal hard drive has 112GB available when empty, I’m at a bit of a loss on how to do this. I mean, I tried emptying the trash like the message suggests, but still wasn’t able to free up 36 times my hard disk’s capacity.

I’ll post an answer when I figure this out online. These are the things Windows users put up with. I can’t see why Apple users do, given the price premium.
